Safety  [ Return towards  Helium Balloon Gas  ]

Use your helium cylinder in safety: do's and don'ts

Filling & Handling Helium filled Balloons

Helium is a colourless, odourless, compressed gas. It is non-toxic and non-flammable. He UN 1046 Class 2.2

What To Do ...

  • Read, understand and observe the safety precautions on the cylinder neck label and the warning on the side of the cylinder.
  • Use a cylinder hand truck to move cylinders.
  • Always store cylinders in a well ventilated area and in an upright secured position so
they cannot be tipped or pushed over.
  • Transport cylinders only in a well ventilated truck.
  • Always use a regulator designed for balloon filling operations. Contact your supplier if questions arise or if more information is needed.
  • Check all connections for leaks before filling balloons.
  • Close the cylinder valve after each use and when cylinder is empty.
Not too little! Not too much! Inflate your balloon to the specified size. That way you won't waste gas and 'pop' balloons. A 10" balloon inflated to 12" uses twice the gas.

What Not To Do ...

  • DO NOT leave cylinders unattended.
  • DO NOT allow anyone to breathe Helium direct from the cylinder.
  • DO NOT allow anyone to breathe Helium from filled balloons.
  • DO NOT allow children or unauthorised persons to use or handle cylinders.
  • DO NOT use cylinders as rollers, transport safely.
  • NEVER smoke when dealing with gas.
